Dear Community,

We are pleased to inform you that we have launched a 13 week digital community arts program to co-create 11-13 panels telling the story of our times (2020's Global Pandemic) and our stories of adapting and belonging in the Community of London Ontario. Watch our introductory video to the project by clicking here.

Initially we planned the project to be a series of group workshops delivered to 18 community groups where we were going to share stories through painting parties and storytelling hangouts. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we adapted the project to take place online as the workshops could no longer take place in group spaces. Also, we extended the reach of the project across the community of London Ontario and beyond to our personal connections who need a space for storytelling and creative expression in their lives during these times of quarantine.

To embark in this collective storytelling mural painting digital exploration, here is the deal:

  • Project started June 3rd, 2020. New participants can register until June 17th.

  • We committed 13 weeks of arts and storytelling activities online, being “culture jammed together” and posted every Wednesday, full of interactive activities, resources, creativity, storytelling...

  • Community in order to participate must commit to submit an art and/or story “activities” weekly in order for the collective artistic process to evolve into the community public art for the installations (no storytelling or art background needed).

  • Completion of weekly Arts and storytelling activities take a minimum of 30-60 mins. With tons of space for further exploration. Be willing to express yourself in new ways and to try new things.

  • Together, through a participatory digital format, We will create 11-13 art pieces/murals collectively which will be installed in the Richmond Underpass of London Ontario (between Horton and York st.).

  • In September, there will be a community painting party with all of us together if times allow. We will paint together the background wall of the panels.

  • Participation is free, you can invite your friends, we will hold a space together that is as accessible as we can make it online, welcoming and respectful.

To register for this project please complete the following MonkeySurvey registration form before June 17th, 2020:

This project was founded by the city of London through a voting process in the community of London Ontario for the Community Decision Making Grant in order to create public art through a participatory process.

“A total work of art is only possible in the context of the whole of society. Everyone will be a necessary co-creator of a social architecture, and so long as anyone cannot participate, the ideal form of democracy has not been reached.” (Joseph Beuys)
